Runoscope Forecast June 5th to June 11th 2017/ Runoscope du 5 au 11 Juin 2017 (BILINGUAL FRENCH/ENGLISH POST)

Dear Friends,

Before we start I’d like to thank all the people who came to yesterday’s Metaphysical Meetup at the Garden of Grace, Intention & Wellness (hopefully there will be many more), and more specifically people who decided to stop by to get their Runes read. Knowledge is power, please use that knowledge wisely.

Chers Amis,

Since Runes are my specialty, this week’s Tarotscope is going to be in fact a Runoscope. Same rules as usual: I will show you the back of 3 cards that you will quietly observe for a few seconds. The card you will be drawn to is the card that will apply to you & your life. For this reading, I used the “Rune Magic Cards” by Donald Tyson.

Tscope June5 1.1

Look closely at the 3 cards: which one are you drawn to?

Regardez ces 3 cartes: laquelle vous attire?

CARD # 1 (On the Left) / CARTE # 1 (A Gauche):

Tscope June5 1.2

If you picked HAGALAZ:

Prepare for a storm this week! One that will make you shiver and shake. One that can strip you from your certitudes, and turn your world upside down. In the realm of relationships (work, home or love): tensions, arguments, temptations, and betrayals are some of the items on the menu. You can be shaken to your core but you need to stay strong! Be cautious about what you say, who you say it to and who you surround yourself with. If you strategically wish to play it safe: remain in the background until the storm passes. But if you end up being caught up in the midst of it, know that this experience will make you grow and you won’t make the same mistakes twice…

CARD # 2 (In the Middle) / CARTE # 2 (Au Milieu):

Tscope June5 1.3

If you picked NAUTHIZ:

You’re at a crossroad right now, dealing with circumstances that may be out of your control, and trying to balance your wants with your actual needs. It’s not a fun place to be and you might find yourself plagued with worries and anxiety. Try to remain calm and centered as much as possible. Know that this situation is only temporary, but while you’re waiting for the storm to pass you can proactively plan your next move. You are being guided and rest assured that help and relief are on their way but, meanwhile, you need to stay clear headed in order to make smart choices and decisions. Don’t let fear & worry cloud your mind, you’ll only add more fuel to the fire. Also, avoid impulsive decisions at all cost: they might bring some relief to your current situation, it would be only temporary and in the long run, what is happening will be bound to repeat itself so consider yourself warned!

CARD # 3 (On the Right) / CARTE # 3 (A Droite):

Tscope June5 1.4

If you picked GEBO:

Consider what makes you happy and what makes you feel balanced, whether in your relationships or at work. It is time to analyze your situation in all honesty and to address any issue or imbalance that doesn’t suit you or your lifestyle anymore. Don’t be afraid to face your own demons, they need to be dealt with before things get unmanageable! It might mean: walking away from a toxic person/relationship, moving on with your life, following a dream or a passion,…etc. What brings you joy is what you need to focus on, so follow your gut and do what feels right! For some of you this could be hard or painful at first, but in the long run you’ll be glad you did it! Know that you’re not alone wandering blindly in the wilderness, there is a path appearing as you go. And leaving the old will bring something new, including like-minded people.

TAROTSCOPE FORECAST MAY 29th-JUNE 4th 2017 / TAROTSCOPE DU 29 MAI AU 4 JUIN 2017 (BILINGUAL FRENCH/ENGLISH POST)

Dear friends,

I’d like to apologize for the delay. Here’s our third tarotscope forecast. As usual, this is a general trend for the week, nothing precise. I will show you the back of 3 cards that you will quietly observe for a few seconds. The card you will be drawn to is the card that will apply to you & your life. This week I chose the “The Tarot of Marrakech” by Colleuil & Valadié. Shall we start?

Chers amis,

Tscope May29 1.2

Look closely at the 3 cards: which one are you drawn to?

Regardez ces 3 cartes: laquelle vous attire?

CARD # 1 (On the Left) / CARTE # 1 (A Gauche):

Tscope May29 1.3

If you chose Card # 1:

3 of Urns: I say what I love, I love what you say

There are some things you’ve been dying to say but until now, you didn’t dare to. Now is a good time to express them. These are important things, they weigh on you and it’s not a good thing to keep them inside. Remaining silent can create an imbalance (on a physical, emotional and/or spiritual level) so dare to talk: whatever the topic or the importance of the matter, it has to come out! However, it’s important that the heart and the speech remain in harmony so choose your words wisely so that they don’t get misinterpreted and out of (your) control. Seek balance.

CARD # 2 (In the Middle) / CARTE # 2 (Au Milieu):

Tscope May29 1.4

If you chose Card # 2:

9 of Scimitars: Die in order to live!

This card is the equivalent of the Death card in tarot, but do not fear: this is only a symbolic death! Indeed, it reflects the achievement of something, a way of thinking or a way of being because you are evolving and as such, you are moving on to the next phase in your life. Celebrate what you’ve accomplished and celebrate yourself! And get ready to start something new because there are good things coming your way…

CARD # 3 (On the Right) / CARTE # 3 (A Droite):

Tscope May29 1.5

If you chose Card #3:

10 of Mandalas: To be Master of Oneself and the Universe

This card invites you to use the physical & material world around you as a terrain of transition to move towards something else, something greater than yourself. You are on your way to self-realization, and a such, to become at last the master of your self and your environment. Vous have managed to transmute your inner lead into gold, in the manner of the alchemists. Congratulations! Wisdom, happiness and inner peace are within reach…

TAROTSCOPE FORECAST MAY 22nd-28th 2017 / TAROTSCOPE DU 22 AU 28 MAI 2017 (BILINGUAL FRENCH/ENGLISH POST)

Dear Friends,

Here’s our second tarotscope forecast. It acts as a general trend for the week, nothing precise. I will show you the back of 3 cards that you will quietly observe for a few seconds. The card you will be drawn to is the card that will apply to you & your life. This week I chose the “The Green Man Tree Oracle – Ancient Wisdom from the Greenwood” by John Matthews & Will Worthington. Shall we start?

Chers amis,

CARD # 1 (On the Left) / CARTE # 1 (A Gauche):

From Sacrifice Comes Restoration

If you chose Card # 1:

There are times in life when Destiny nudges us to make choices, and in this case, to let go (of something or someone). The Elder tree here, asks us to set aside something we value in a sacred way. This is something that needs to be done mindfully: not out of fear, anger or superstition. The Elder knows that letting go is never easy, but know that when you accept and make the conscious choice to part with something (or someone), another blessing is on its way. Have faith in Life and in the Universe, and trust that this sacrifice, as painful as it is, will not be in vain…

CARD # 2 (In the Middle) / CARTE # 2 (Au Milieu):

Tscope May22 1.4

Where All are Gathered Strength is Strongest

If you chose Card # 2:

Being independent is a great asset but there are times when doing things on your own isn’t beneficial. Humans are social creatures and there are many reasons why we might want to seek the company of others. Whether is is for inner strength, comfort, sharing knowledge or a bit of wisdom, you are being asked by the Aspen to mingle with other people: there is a lesson here for you to be learned, which is itself the greatest wealth.

CARD # 3 (On the Right) / CARTE # 3 (A Droite):

Tscope May22 1.5

A Good Beginning leads to a Good Conclusion

If you chose Card #3:

You are given the opportunity for a fresh new start. This is a gift from the Universe (and the Birch) and you want to make sure to make the best out of it. Approach the task with care, plan thoroughly, and stay on track. With a good start, you are almost guaranteed that whatever you are undertaking will end up well.

Dear Friends,

You will find here my long overdue 2nd podcast. I got a better microphone so the quality of the recording should be much better (at least it sounded better on my computer).

In terms of vocabulary, I think the level is intermediate. However, there are some expressions and sentences’ constructions that I think, are more advanced.

For those of you who missed the first one, you can find it HERE.

How to make the best out this podcast: you can have a 1st listening to get the gist of it, during a 2nd listening you can try to write down words and/or sentences that you recognize/understand. After a 3rd listing, you can try to translate what you heard. You can also, alternatively, use this podcast as a dictation (which is an excellent exercise).

To help you understand better, here’s some useful vocabulary (I didn’t include words that, I think, should be known and others that can easily be guessed):

Le thé: tea  –  un souvenir: a memory  –  l’enfance: childhood  –  se préparer: (in this context) to prepare for oneself  –  réutiliser: to reuse  –  un sachet (de thé): a teabag  –  deuxième: second  –  fort(e): strong  –  le matin: the morning  –  thym: thyme  –  romarin: rosemary  –  le miel: honey  –  éviter: to avoid  –  attraper: to catch  – une boisson: a beverage  –  vivre: to live  –  sans: without  –  un buveur/une buveuse: a drinker  –  quelqu’un: somebody/someone  –  le quotidien: everyday life  –  soi: oneself  –  le monde: the world

Enjoy ;).

Tarotscope Forecast May 15th-21st 2017 / Tarotscope du 15 au 21 Mai 2017 (Bilingual French/English Post)

Dear Friends,

As promised here’s our first tarotscope forecast. It acts as a general trend for the week, nothing precise. I will show you the back of 3 cards that you will quietly observe for a few seconds. The card you will be drawn to is the card that will apply to you & your life. This week I chose the “Voice of the Trees – A Celtic Divination Oracle” by Mickie Mueller. Shall we start?

Chers amis,

Tscope May15 1.2

Look closely at the 3 cards: which one are you drawn to?

Regardez ces 3 cartes: laquelle vous attire?

CARD # 1 (On the Left) / CARTE # 1 (A Gauche):

Tscope May15 1.3

If you chose Card # 1:

Secrets will be revealed this week. A shift is happening: there are things that have been hidden but the way is opening before you. Pay close attention to signs, dreams, and synchronicities for they are all pieces of the puzzle – YOUR puzzle. However, your job is to decipher their meaning and distinguish what is true/real and what is false. Avoid distractions and stay focused on your goals. It’s only by remaining centered and focused that you will discover and learn what you need to know.

CARD # 2 (In the Middle) / CARTE # 2 (Au Milieu):

Tscope May15 1.4

If you chose Card # 2:

This week you will need a good amount of self-discipline in order to stay focused and complete the tasks at hand. Take pride in the work that you do, you will be able to appreciate your accomplishments even more. Your knowledge and skills have the potential to boost your status (a promotion might be in the air). In any case, know that the wheel is turning and that it may bring its share of surprises and changes. Your natural abilities could be a great asset, and even benefit you as these changes roll in…

CARD # 3 (On the Right) / CARTE # 3 (A Droite):

Tscope May15 1.5

If you chose Card #3:

A doorway stands before you: it’s a sign of passage to a higher place of status (both in the physical and in the spiritual sense). This is the natural evolution of your experience, dedication, and focus: all these factors have helped shape the person that you are today. Now you’re in a position of strength: you are respected and people will come to you for advice and for help. Remain humble, centered, and professional as the wheel is always turning and Lady Fortuna comes and goes…

Brocade

I think the level for this first podcast is intermediate to advanced. I went to a fabric store…That is all I’m willing to say, the rest you will have to discover for yourself ;).

I purposely kept the podcast short in order to not overwhelm my listeners with information, which could then lead to confusion. I’m going to give a little bit of vocabulary below to help you understand and/or translate better.

As I said in my introductory post: you can have a 1st listening to get the gist of it, during a 2nd listening you can try to write down words and/or sentences that you recognize/understand. After a 3rd listing, you can try to translate what you heard. You can also, alternatively, use this podcast as a dictation (which is an excellent exercise).

Here’s the vocabulary that might be useful: un tissu: a fabric, une poupée: a doll, acquérir: to acquire, même (in this context): even, se balader: to stroll/to wander, caché: hidden, être tombé(e) sur: to stumble upon, un tissu brocart: a brocade, rêver: to dream, un conteur/une conteuse: a storyteller.

Feel free to email me personally to request a written transcript of this podcast. I also encourage you to subscribe to my blog to make sure not to miss any future podcast.

Enjoy ;).

Introducing French Podcasts (Coming Soon)

I’ve been teaching French for years now, and I’ve noticed that most methods seem to miss the essential point of learning a language, which is: communication. And communication is not a one-way street, it’s about understanding as well as being understood.

Most folks get comfortable with writing and reading, but when you start engaging in an actual conversation, that’s where things start to get challenging. I would say that if you can manage to start thinking in French, then things should get smoother. The other tip I would give is not being afraid to make mistakes, take a chance – after all you’re learning a language – nobody’s going to make fun of you. And if you’re wrong, you will learn something.

As my dear students (and God knows that I challenge them all the time) are becoming more fluent in conversation, they still admit that the listening is their weakness. I admit that French people can talk fast (and I think it’s the same goes with any natives speakers in their own country) therefore I try to speak a little bit slower and in a comprehensible manner. With that in mind, I’ve decided to record some French podcasts.

What will they be about? Well, most likely topics of my own interest: literature, art, folklore, herbal medicine maybe, European myths & legends, maybe some of my own writings and projects as well…Whatever strikes my fancy! I plan to indicate whether my podcasts are for beginner, intermediate and/or advanced students.

How to use them? I would, of course, recommend a first listening to get a gist of what the podcast is about. A second listening should allow you to be able to catch some words and sentences. With a third listening, maybe you can start translating some of it. You can also use those podcasts as dictations: you write down what you hear and understand. Rereading your notes should allow you to self-correct some grammatical and conjugation mistakes. I will prepare a written transcript that I will be willing to email to folks who request it via email or private message.

For each podcast, I will prepare a written transcript that I will be able to email to folks who request it via email or private message. Subscribing to my blog is optional, but would allow you to not miss any podcast (I’m thinking about doing it on a weekly basis for now, but things might change over time).

I also plan to work on my own French learning method (that I hope to be able to use for my classes in a near future) based on TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling), in which language, art, and tales can coexist harmoniously…But that’s another story ;).

Better Late than Never…aka Gluten Free Holiday Recipes (with Whole Foods)

…At least that’s what we like to say in French (Mieux vaut tard que jamais).

I’ve been pretty busy lately, reason why I wasn’t able to post these recipes earlier (that and the fact that I have to share MY laptop with someone else…)

You will find some suggestions for substitutions as well. Thanks again for your patience and Happy Baking!

Baking Class at WF

PAIN D’EPICES (French Gingerbread) – Gluten, Egg & Dairy Free

Adapted from “Recettes Gourmandes pour Personnes Sensibles” by Eva Claire Pasquier

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup buckwheat flour
  • 1 cup rice flour
  • 1 cup almond flour (or any other nut of your choice)
  • 3/4 cup honey (I prefer buckwheat honey, because it’s usually less sweet and high in minerals)
  • 2 tsp pumpkin spice blend
  • 1  tbsp arrowroot flour
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • The grated zest of an orange or 1/2 tsp natural orange extract
  • 1 can or 1 1/2 cups of full fat coconut milk
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • Optional: 1 egg

Preheat the oven to 350F. In a large bowl, mix all the dry ingredients together. In another bowl, mix all the wet ingredients together. Incorporate the wet mixture into the dry mixture, and blend well. Pour the batter into a greased cake pan and bake for approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until the cake is fully cooked. Let the cake cool completely before removing from the pan and slicing (Try making French toast with this…).

SUBSTITUTIONS:

  • Make it Nut Free: use sunflower seed flour (that you can easily make at home with a food processor) or tigernut flour (note: since tigernuts are naturally sweet, you might need to reduce the amount of honey)
  • Make it Vegan: use date syrup instead of honey

STOLLEN (German-Style Fruitcake) – Gluten & Dairy Free

Adapted from “A Celebration of Gluten Free Baking” by Inge Harris & Gillian Harris

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 lbs apples – peeled & cut (choose a variety for eating rather than baking or they will fall apart)
  • 1/4 cup raw almonds – crushed
  • 1/4 cup raw hazelnuts – crushed
  • 1/2 cup to 1 cup coconut sugar
  • 1/2 cup to 1 cup raisins, dried apricots (diced) and/or dried figs (diced)
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp ground cardamom
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 1/2 cups almond meal (or any other nut flour)
  • 1 1/2 cups sorghum flour
  • 3/4 cup arrowroot flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 3 or 4 eggs
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • Optional: 2-4 tbsp brandy

In a mixing bowl, combine the fruits, the nuts, the cocoa powder, the spices (and the brandy) until everything is well blended. Cover the bowl and refrigerate overnight (or at least for 2-4 hours).

The following day, incorporate the flours, the eggs, the baking soda & the vinegar – the dough should have a fairly moist and sticky consistency.

Preheat the oven to 350F. Spoon into a greased loaf pan or bundt cake pan, and bake for about 1 hour. Remove from the oven and allow to cool in the pan before turning out on a cooling rack, before slicing (You can, if you wish, dust the Stollen with some powdered sugar. For homemade powdered coconut sugar, go HERE).

SUBSTITUTIONS:

  • Make it Egg Free: you can try to sub the eggs with gelatin eggs but I can’t guarantee that it’s gonna work

ITALIAN CHRISTMAS BISCOTTI – Gluten, Grain & Dairy Free

Adapted from Greens of the Stone Age

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup honey or date syrup
  • 1 1/4 cups chestnut flour
  • 1/2 cup arrowroot flour
  • 1 tbsp sunbutter or almond butter
  • 1/2 tsp natural orange extract
  • 1 tsp pumpkin spice blend
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup almonds or hazelnuts – raw or roasted

Pre-heat your oven to 350F. Place all of your ingredients, except for your nuts, into a food processor and wiz until the texture of sticky rice grains. Add the nuts and pulse until you have a combination of some roughly chopped nuts and little bits. Remove the mixture and form into a ball of dough.Line a baking sheet with baking parchment and form your dough ball into a rectangle roughly about 6″x4″ and 0.5″ thick.

Place into the oven on the middle shelf and leave to bake for 15-20 min until golden brown. Remove from the oven, place on a wire rack and leave to cool completely. This could take anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Once completely cooled slice 1/2″ wide slices, horizontally. You can do this lengthways too but it will be sturdier the smaller that it is. For a more authentic look cut diagonal slices! Place the slices face down (the uncooked bits) back on your lined baking sheet in the oven for another 15-20 minutes. Flip over half way through to get an even bake. Remove when lovely and golden brown and crisp. Leave to cool completely on a wire rack. Enjoy.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

  • Make it Egg Free: use a flax egg or a gelatin egg

Enjoy ;).
