May your Ancestors be proud as they are watching over you. Their blood runs in your veins, their lives and experiences encoded in your DNA.
May they all rest in peace and may we not repeat negative patterns such as anger, violence or suffering. Blessed are the Ancestresses!
“Early Germanic peoples celebrated the night before Winter Solstice as Mothers Night. The Venerable Bede, a Christian monk from the 8th century wrote about it in his description of the pagan calendar. In Old English they called it Modraniht. More than 1100 votive stones and altars have been found through the centuries, dedicated to the mothers, or matrons, and half of these altar stones were inscribed and dedicated with Germanic names.
The main areas of worship have been uncovered in ancient Germania, northern Italy and eastern Gaul. There are a few larger cult centers with temples found along the Rhine. Many of these altars were found near rivers, wells or springs. The dedicated altars and votives reached as far as present day Scotland, southern Spain, Frisia and Rome. There is reference to the Germanic Mother Cults in the writings of Bede in 725 AD: “And the very night that is sacrosanct to us, these people call modranect, that is, the mothers’ night, a name bestowed, I suspect, on account of the ceremonies which they performed while watching this night through.”
I found this little guy when hiking yesterday. I have already a little collection of Stone People or ‘Stone Spooks’ as I like to call them.
This one, somehow, stands out. I feel he’s some kind of Ancestor (I’ll have to connect with him to find out more).
I think that I will have to give him a little touch of paint and a proper display.
I collect tarot & oracle decks like I collect books. Some of them I acquired years ago when I was less knowledgeable and surely not ready to use them, read them or understand them properly. The Wild Wood Tarot is one of them.

Though I've had it for years, I just recently started working with the #wildwoodtarot. It does seem to resonate with me more these days. This #cernunnos looking character is all about #traditions. I wasn't blessed with any oral tradition or #knowledge being passed down to me through family lineage, nor did I have a teacher… I'm 100% #selftaught via books, #intuition, #dreams, #innerwork, #divination and practice. Yet what I'm trying to (re)create is #ancient. My recent work with #othila has opened a doorway that will allow me to tap into what I need with the help of the #ancestors. In this audio lecture, Chris looked at Ancestor Worship, chambered tombs, stone circles, alignments, and how they marked the line between world and spirit. Mainly studying Avebury, Dartmoor and Kilmarten Glen.

Your #ancestors blood runs through your veins. Their joys, sufferings, knowledge & experiences are all encoded in your DNA. It's all there, inside, for you to tap into, for you to #reminder and (re) awaken. And yet you are not your Ancestors, your #fate awaits your own #becoming. 'Odal represents the security of what is well-known, but also points out the need to #gobeyond and #outgrow our #tradition in order to develop to the full. It also shows that we first have to be familiar with and master our own tradition before we can #transcend it, #interweave it with other traditions and #create something new.
